The Definitive Map of Mainframe

“I finally, really did it… I drew it up!”

I can’t believe it’s finally over.  After 7 months of brain-melting, retina-peeling pencil and pen work…  It’s done!

You’ll pardon me if I don’t have anything left to say about it, haha.  The past month was the final sprint toward the finish line – I put down everything else I was doing to finish.  From finishing off G-Prime, to adding all the vehicles and Vid-Windows.  Then I had to add shadow and up the contrast to make it pop.  What a trip though.  What a memory.  Speaking of, let’s take a little look at it from conception through to completion.

Finally, while I have done this Map of Mainframe for my own twisted love of pain, if you’re interested in seeing more art (and maps!), please consider supporting me on Patreon.  Thank-you!

Making a Map of Mainframe (Part 12)

Beverly Hills came out looking great! It was actually a lot easier to do than I thought. Mostly due to its light infrastructure. I’m getting ready to do G-Prime next. It’s kind of a mess of parallel lines and intersecting curves. So as always I’m nervous!

This sector was brought to you by the ReBoot Discord and TheZorotlThing on Twitter. Thanks to them I was able to have access to some pretty rad ReBoot art. (See above and below).

Making a Map of Mainframe (Part 11)

They made Kitsilano, Vancouver into a sector… I wonder why they stopped there. Maybe there’s a Metrotown around Mainframe someplace. Or maybe the Principal Office is modelled after Science World?? Perhaps the information highways were inspired by the Skytrain?? Oo-er! Vancouver is Mainframe!

This sector was brought to you by the Incoming Game Podcast and Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Making a Map of Mainframe (Part 10)

I can now say I’ve completed the 2nd set of lines for Floating Point Park and Wall Street. It’s really terrifying actually, because once the pen goes down, that’s it. I really want to stay away from major photoshopping and digital editing (despite this being an illustration of the inside of a computer, lol).

Just like Floating Point Park, Wall Street Sector is another work of art. I’m referring to the original from the show, rather than the version I’ve drawn of course. Dang. What a beautiful city to live in. I mean, besides the presence of life-threatening game cubes that could fall from the sky at any second in unpredictable locations (although they did get better at predicting the loading site toward the end of the series).
